A couple years ago, I took my music off of all the major distribution channels in a sort of silent revolt against the way artist royalties for streaming and downloads were allocated (or weren’t). Since then a lot has changed for the better, and has gotten somewhat better. For the most part things are just moving in what seems to be a positive direction. This I can support, and for this reason I’m re-inspired to re-release the stuff I took down…
Hence there’s a new Double EP available on Spotify here! iTunes is coming soon, along with other channels, and I’ll post them as I have them on Facebook and Twitter.
Why did I take my music down?
There have been a lot of updates to the way artists get paid in recent years, so things are promising – it looks like. But for the better part, most available digital distro channels have not been able to figure out fail safe ways of getting artists’ income to them. That said, it’s all a part of business, and growth. A lot of indies went the Bandcamp route. I went exclusively to Bandcamp, HitRecord.org, or other independent channels for the sake of supporting, and marketing exclusively to those channels for a time. I will still continue to support those channels moving forward no matter where I put my music.
